NEW DELHI** — On the occasion of International Nurses Day 2026, Major General Lissamma PV, Additional Director General of the Military Nursing Service (MNS), extended her heartiest felicitations to the MNS officers and complimented them for working tirelessly through endless shifts, taking care of patients with utmost compassion and empathy.
Acknowledging the global theme of the year, the ADG highlighted the unique dual role these officers play as both clinical experts and soldiers. From the high-altitude medical facilities in the Himalayas to the complex requirements of UN Peacekeeping Missions abroad, MNS officers continue to serve with courage and distinction. The General emphasized that their presence in remote fields remains a lifeline for the Indian Armed Forces, ensuring that medical excellence is delivered even in the most hostile environments.
The celebration marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, a day that serves as a reminder of the evolving legacy of the MNS since its inception in 1888. Maj Gen Lissamma PV noted that the modern MNS officer embodies the spirit of resilience, adapting to the latest medical technologies while maintaining the human touch that defines the healing profession. The ceremony concluded with a tribute to the "Angels of Mercy" who continue to uphold the motto of 'Service with Smile' across all commands.
